Ok today I had a scary experience. after I finished eating dinner I got up and my heart started beating fast and then it got faster and faster as if it were going to jump out of my chest. I could feel it in my throat. I was getting very hot and my feet felt tingly. earlier that day I felt hot and a little nauseated....has anyone had anyhting like this...should I see a doctor? Im scared Im only 23

I would definately check it out. You can't rule out a heart problem, but it sounds like probably either an anxiety attack (they occur even when you do not think you are feeling particularly anxious at the moment before it occurs). The other symptoms could also indicate that. It could also be your thyroid or a hormonal issue.

It could also be a heart condition....a few years ago, i had an experience like that...i felt like i couldn't catch my breath and my heart was pounding so hard! i got lightheaded and had to lie down. It was really scary. Also i had palpitations periodically and they gradually became more regular. Finally, last year, i got checked out and found i DO have a heart problem! I was only 28 at that time so I was shocked and scared. But now, the condition is controlled with medication and my heart rate is always nice and steady....it sounds like you had an episode of tachycardia which is just rapid heart rate. Some people with it get it all the time and need pace makers, others just get episodes and can control it with something like a beta blocker....which is just a med that blocks the stress hormone from affecting the heart and keeps your heart rate regular. Don't be frightened though until you have been checked out (easier said than done, i know!). What I have is called 'Mitral Valve Prolapse w/regurge' and is not life threatening, but should be monitored. Hope all this helps, and good luck to you! Lil'Pea

Well I went to the doctors and I had an EKG it seemed to be normal...phew...but they made me wear a holter monitor for 24 hrs to see if there is anything else going on.....if there is still nothing they want to test my thyroid...its funny since i have had this monitor on I have not experienced anything weird at all

Well, ekg's often come back normal...i have never had an abnormal one and i do have a heart condition. So if you still are bothered and have symptoms, follow up some more. Request more testing. A good test to have is an echocardiogram(ultrasound of the heart)...it is the only test that showed my condition. Also a tilt table test will show changes in your heart rate/blood pressure during positional changes....good luck! Lil'Pea
