It's not just recently I've noticed a lot of my hair falls out more than normal, but it's been like this even before i started dying my hair. I mean it's not clumps, but it's a lot of strands, and I can't brush my hair without so much of it coming out, even running my hands through it a lot comes out, I don't understand and I have been baffled at this for I dont know how long now. I use medicated shampoo just incase it's my scalp dried out, but it's not working, and it sucks, because my hair is already thin to begin with. Could somebody please help me? Somebody said that sometimes Thyroid problems can cause hair loss which I am 5'7 only 110 pounds trying to gain weight and not succeeding, I also think I have some homornal problem because my breasts haven't developed really, which depresses me even more, my mom said she started her period when she was a senior in high school I started at 14 (and they are still irregular), but shouldn't my breasts have grown now? I mean could this be the reason for what has happened to me? I'm hopefully going to get a blood test done soon, if anyone could help me out, I'd really appreciate it! Thanks!

Hi,
Your hormornes have alot to do with hair loss. Are you on birth control? I have lost a lot due to the depo-provera brith control shot. So, I suggest at your age to defintely see a doctor and get everything checked out.In the mean while try not to stress to much over it. Stress can make it worse. I should know, that's all I have been doing since I figured out what was causing mine. Good luck!

Hair loss can sometimes be due to diet. Our hair is made of protein and if we don't eat enough protein we won't have thick, strong healthy hair. Make sure that at least 2 of your daily meals contain protein-rich foods like fish, meat, nuts, eggs and cheese.
Like Jenn said, stress can also cause hair shedding/loss. Surges of adrenalin can send testosterone levels way up (this is the male hormone that can cause hair to thin). Even though it's easier said than done, try not to stress over your hair.
Two other causes of hair loss in women are Polycystic Ovary Syndrome and Thyroid problems. You'll have to make an appointment with your doctor to get checked out for those.
I really hope that this helps a bit and you can find some answers. Your doctor is the best place to start. Good luck and take care.

Hi tigger_girl 76
Do you know about polycystic ovary syndrome? I read that some women that were on depo also had this. Is there a test to find out if you have it? If you have any info that would great. Thanks.

You really need some blood tests done because there are at least 20 things that cause hair loss and its too hard to guess especially as young as you are.

Thank you guys for your help, once my dad's insurance starts up next month I'll be able to go in and get some blood tests done.

Hi Danielle,
That's good news about your dad's insurance starting next month. In the meantime you just try to relax and take care. (((HUGZ))) :)
Hi Jenn,
A friend of mine has PCOS and here in Britain it's one of the most common hormonal problems for young women. My friend had an ultrasound sound done that revealed her ovaries were covered in cysts and a blood test showed an imbalance in her hormones. There are about 26 different symptoms of PCOS but here are a few of the most common:
-irregular periods/lack of periods
-excessive facial and/or body hair
-oily skin, acne
-being overweight, rapid weight gain, difficulty in losing weight
-hair loss
-breast pain
-abdominal pain
-fertility problems
-extreme exhaustion
-mood swings
My friend was put on the pill to try and shrink the cysts and also had surgery to remove some when one actually burst. She's a mother now to a beautiful little boy so that shows that PCOS can be controlled. Her cysts have returned but her hair has stopped falling out.
I hope this helped a bit. Take care everybody!
It normal you can lose 100 or 150 hair a day my hair fall out too and have plenty of hair.
