I will be having my first colonoscopy on Friday. The GoLytely product I need to drink comes with several flavor packets. Which one have you found to be most palatable? Orange, cherry, lemon-lime, berry??? I can't even imagine drinking a gallon of anything in 3-4 hours.

Hi-Hi, I don't think the flavour matters. That stuff is gross no matter what flavour. But I guess I'd go with orange.

I managed to drink the whole gallon in about 20 minutes. Force yourself to gulp it down. The sooner it's down, the faster everything starts, the sooner the diarrhea is over.

Colonoscopies aren't a big deal. You get drugs that make you loopy and they don't hurt. Feels a little odd, but not pain. And any anxiety you feel will be eradicated by the drugs. It may seem embarassing but gastroenterologists do them all the time . You can even see the screen as it goes through, that is kind of neat. I was conscious for some of mine, then I blacked out from the drugs half way through.

Don't worry.

My husband was perversely looking forward to seeing his insides on the monitor but he was unconscious throughout ..... I always said he could go to sleep without closing his eyes and standing up :D

good luck with your colonoscopy

Good Morning!

I found the fasting to be the hardest part of the prep. My wife found drinking the liquid to be difficult but did find comfort in bringing the small portable tv into the bathroom! When it was my turn for the exam several months later, she had heard from some medical friends to make up the solution a day before and keep it refrigerated! I found drinking it cold to be a pleasant experience and do recommend it!

As for the exam, I thought if Katie C. could watch it, so could I and I told the Dr. to keep me awake. But after he found out I am a big guy, he must have changed his mind and decided to put me out! I awoke as they pulled the scope out of me during the last minute and was impressed with the quality of the picture that I was watching on the screen and wished that I had seen the whole thing!

The most painful part of the exam for me was the nurse had trouble in finding the vein to insert an IV line and I though she could have been a little bit more gentle when she inserted the kneedle.

Don't worry about the exam-- it is a piece of cake. If you must worry, be more concerned about the quality of your doc's education and his compentency. I'm sure you have done your homework in that area and I pray that everything turns out A-OK for you. Peace.

I am also looking at this test. My fear is the Fleets Kit. Does anyone know how it is? I have spasms when I go to the bathroom too much and worried this will cause misery. I also worry alot about having this done. Wishing you the best. suem
