Ok...here is the story. I am taking Yasmine. I am on my first pack and on the last week. I have had a history of off and on high blood pressure. It was never consistant so I was never on any medication for it until I got pregnant 2 yrs ago and then it sky rocketed. Was really sick while pregnant with REALLY high blood pressure. After having my baby and after about 3 months...my blood pressure went back to normal and I was fine.
Well....after telling my doctor all of this. When he put me on the pill he said to check my blood pressure occasionally and make sure it was still normal.
Well... this whole month I have been checking it often and I have had some high readings. A few were really high...like 137/100. I think that was the highest. But then...when I am resting or laying down. It goes back to normal. When I start to move around or do anything physical it goes up. When I lay down...it goes down.
I called and told my doctor and he said to finish this pack and then stop the pills. Check my blood pressure for a couple weeks and see what it does.
But...here is my problem. I DO NOT WANT TO GET PREGNANT!!!! Since my blood pressure is not staying high consistantly I am reluctant to stop the pills in FEAR OF GETTING PREGNANT.
WHAT WOULD YOU DO??????? IT WOULD BE BAD FOR MY HEALTH TO GET PREGNANT...BUT IT IS BAD FOR MY HEALTH TO TAKE THE PILL.
And I asked him about other forms of birth control and he said the pill would be the best. This was before the high blood pressure issue.
WHAT DO I DO???

Hi,
I sursprised that your doctor said the pill would be best if you have high pressure.I had to go off the pill cause of that and was put on the depo-shot which was way worse. I finailly got off the shot and had the paragard IUd put in. I haven't had really any problems with it so far. Just cramps and my first period on it was heavy. You might want to look into.

i had this problem, and im on the pill now with a normal bp. (though i have never been pregnant)
what i did was check it on my own at a pharmacy, but i would let myself sit and wait for about 5 minutes, taking a few readings as i sat. as i got more and more relaxed from sitting, the reading would go down. although i still got borderline readings like 130/90 (and im a tiny, healthy girl! i dont smoke!)
what i did was take a calcium/magnesium supplement (it is supposed to lower bp) along with a garlic supplement (also lowers bp) everyday.
i noticed a significant difference, enough that i am now in the normal range. AND im on the pill.
also check out webmd for the DASH diet for more ideas to reduce it with moderate changes in diet.

Thank you...I am going to try and change some things in order to get it down and try to stay on the pill. I defenitely could eat better. I am thin but I do not exercise much or eat that great. I think if I cut out the fast food and cut back on sodium it might help. I just need to find out what I should be eating and not eating. And def. get some exercise.

You might switch to a different type of pill or different formulation. I have very low BP (normally 90/68) but when I tried Estrostep (which has much more Progestin than what I was taking previously) my BP went up too 144/90something.
