Have any of you ladies started getting ovarian cysts late in peri-meno?
I am 53, and just in the past few months my cycles became irregular. Because of another problem, my gynecologist scheduled a pelvic ultrasound.
Seems I am forming cysts on my ovaries. I have had 3 ultrasounds now, and I am scheduled for a 4th. I have at least two cysts on my right ovary, and just had a cyst rupture on my left ovary. My gyn is just watching them for now.....she wants to check in 6 more weeks to see if the fluid from the ruptured ovary gets absorbed into my system, and to check on the other cysts. I thought cysts occurred in women of childbearing age....isn't it unusual to start forming them at menopause? If anybody has experienced this I'd like to know the outcome. I'd sure hate to have ultrasounds every 6 weeks forever!

Cysts (functional) occur because we ovulate so I would think once in menopause (no more periods), we stop ovulation and thus no more cysts.
I had recently read a medical journal that stated that some women occasionally do develop cysts in their 50's. Traditional approach was to panic and have them removed, but new thinking is to watch and wait. Seemed like 90% or so resolved with no further problems.
Are you still having periods or are on HRT or anything that could stimulate your ovaries??
