i saw my doctor last tuesday and we decided that the birth control method, depo provera, would be best for me. my periods are pretty regular and come within the 27-32 day of my cycle. when i saw my doctor, i had originally thought my period would come on saturday so i scheduled a lab appt. to get my first shot today, or wednesday. well, my period was early and came the day after i saw my doctor, exactly a week ago. i was visiting my friend in duluth this past weekend and wasn't able to get in to the lab earlier. i called my doctor and she said it wouldn't be that much of a problem that i'm getting my first injection on the 7th day after my period instead of the 5th. i can't help but worry still. can anyone give me any information? :confused:

I remember reading that any time between the 1st thru the 5th day of your period is when you should get the shot. There is a website for Depo-provera where you can speak with a RN for any questions. I believe the site is Depo-Provera.com. Good luck.

Have you done plenty of research to know what you are up against??? Depo can have devastating effects on women! Read all you can about it on this health board before getting that injection. You will find more who have had bad experiences than you will find good. It is a very risky method of birth control.

i got my 1 st depo shot 3 weeks ago and i never had gotten my period at allprior to getting the shot, i thought i was due but it never came, but they gave me a preg test and it was negative so they gave me the injection, two days later i got my period and it hasn't gone away since, my doctor told me you can get the injection as late as 3 -4 days after your period, i never got one so they just did the preg test like i said, so you should be fine, if your that worried ask another doctor or go to the clinic and get some advice, good luck

I agree with u on that it's a very risky form of birth control. I suffered fromsome of the side effects and even thru it's been a couple of weeks since the last shot was supposed to end, I feel even worse. It can stay in your system for about 6 months to a 1 year. You should dentialy do a alot of research on it. I wish I did. :o

3 week long heavy periods that would end a day and come back for another week or two
horrible acne - i had large, painful cystic zits all over my face and back and hadn't had acne at that point since i was like 14
o ya and no sex drive whatsoever so at that point whats the point in taking the depo? hahahahaha ^ forgot to mention that one in the other topic

I guess a lot has been discovered about depo since I started it back in 1995. Back then, I had my first one at my 6 week postpartum checkup. Then I would automatically go exactly 12 weeks from that day. (it was on wednesdays every time). Anyway, I never heard anything about having to take it on certain cycle days. They also told me it worked from the moment of injection to prevent pregnancy because it did several things that the ordinary bcp didn't do. I went off of it in 2003 to plan for our last baby. I went to a bcp for about 18 months. At any rate, I'm sure things are different now. (10 years later). I did have a friend to have a tubal pregnancy that ws blamed from getting pregnant so close to discontinuing the shot. My dr. recommended being off for a full year before ttc. There is a lot to think about and I would discuss all sides with your dr. before going blindly into it.

Depo was one of the worst decisions I ever made. Decided to go on Depo when I was 18 and I was on it for 6 months and that whole time I did not get my period once! Sounds great, but that's un-natural and who knows what negative effects it had on my body not having a period??? Anyhow, after I decided this is just wrong I didn't get a follow up shot and I got my period for 6 month straight!!!!!!! So the entire time I didn't get it due to the shot my period made up for itself by staying the same amount of time! Horrendous experience!
The conviences of not having to take a pill everyday was suddenly not that convienient!
