A function of the heart is to pump throughout the body oxygen-rich blood rec'd from the lungs. To block or interfere with that process by inhaling toxic fumes would/will put a strain on the heart to meet the system's demand for oxygen.

It has been stated by some researchers that moderation of alcohol may be beneficial. Excessiveness damages the liver. More damaging than alcohol may be the secondhand smoke when drinking, IMHO.

Hiya,

I concur with the views already given. I have had 2 heart attacks and a triple bypass. After the first HA I was told of the dangers of smoking especially for somebody with heart problems (which I really didn't know I had until the first one) so it made sense to me to stop if I could. So I did. I stopped there and then. I did it without any nicotine replacement therapy or anything like that. It is a very difficult thing to do though, so if you are looking to go down that road, I wish you the best of luck.

Alcohol in moderation is supposed to be good for you. Drinking, funnily enough, was never ever mentioned to me. Maybe that was because I do not drink much, high days and holidays only, I'm not anti drink by any means it's just that I honestly don't get a break for socialising very often. God, I sound so miserbale, I'm not though he he!!

So yes definitely smoking is the one that is worst for anyone with heart problems or even without.

Heavy drinking, though, is VERY hard on the heart and is one of the leading causes of dilated cardiomyopathy (extremely dangerous), hypertriglyceridemia and hyperension.

But for moderate drinking and smoking, I'll go with smoking being the more dangerous.

red wine has been shown to be good for your heart. somthing to do with a chemical that gives it it's red color.
