While deadlifts (done properly) are a great exercise, they are still inferior to squats. There really is no replacement.
Suck it up and do both!

NO No No- squat and learn to enjoy the pain. While deadlisft (depending on style, suomo or convwntional) will hit leg muscles they are really considered a back exercise. There is absolutely no substitute for squats

Nice! There have been many posts with "squats are tough" or "squats take a lot out of me" and I have to admit squats really kick your butt, when I started them I hated them. When I took a break from them and returned to them I hated them again. But, and yes its kinda twisted, you get to enjoy squats and the associated exhaustion! One key is never miss a leg day, just one miss and you'll pay.
