hi, i'm abit curious about something, maybe someone can give me an answer. If you lift weights, but don't eat alot of protein what happens to the muscles? are they able to repair themselves still, and if so where would they get that energy from to do so? is it dangerous to lift weights without increasing your protein intake?
sorry if thats a really novice question, i just wondered.

If you don't eat enough protien your arms wont get any bigger. I found when i started doing weights and didn't eat enough protien that my arms got stronger but my muscles got smaller and my arms skinnier. So i would recommend that you eat really well.

You wont be able to get in a positive nitrogen balance and you wont gain any muscle. Depending on how inadequate protein is you could even lose muscle. The other option is you will fall into the class of 90% of the people that you see in the gym who go there for years yet make no visible progress.

So i guess most people take protein supplement? I checked the prices of these protein powder and they were so expensive some were $50 to $100. I guess is kinda hard to manage for some people

Is there a rule of thumb for protein intake? Or something you personally follow? Like 1g protein per lb. of lean body mass or something?

thats roughly it. If you want to be more exact, the minimum for active poeple (fitness types) is .8g per pound of bodyweight. But 1g/ lb is easier to remember. :)
