I've had a tender lump on my shin for a few weeks, at times my leg feels a little numb. I know I need to see a doctor above all but wondered if the hard lump was a typical symptom of blood clots? I am a 24 year old female on birth control, and I fear that I may be at high risk for blood clots.

When I had a blood clot in my leg , it was in the calf of my leg. I had a lot of pain when I would walk and as it got worse even when I was sitting. My leg also became warm to the touch, and I had a lot of swelling which they said was typical. So I cant answer your question ,but this was my experience.

i too have been bothered with dvt. it started in my calf and hurt when i walked. that was 3 years ago. the only way to tell for sure if you have a clot is to have a sonogram done. besides taking counadine everyday, i also inject myself with lovenox everyday. so for gods' sake see a doc and have it checked. clots and dvt are nothing to fool around with. good luck...

Hi, I had pain in my calf in my right leg and infections of my lungs for weeks till I couldn't breathing problems and had to go to the ER for care and found out I had D.V.T. and P.E. in my lungs. My doctors doesn't know why I'm still here today because I had 7 blood clots. Three large clots in the lungs and one in the main vein going to the brain and the rest in my right leg. I have no family history of DVT's or never had any surgerys and broken bones. My heart was twice the size of a normal heart because the clots in the lungs was keeping blood back from going into the lungs. I'm on counadine everyday and have taken lovenox shots for two weeks twice a day. My blood is 3.0 thin. My question will I have to be on these pills and have a blood test every month for the rest of my life? I wouldn't mind doing the pills but the testing is real costly. My doctor charges 80.00 a test.
Thanks, John.

it depends on whether your situation with the dvt has progressed or gotten worse. some people have to stay on the pills, some dont. the doctor or your specialist looks at your risk factors (I think thats what its called) and determines whether u should stay on the medication or not. i wouldnt mind doing the pills as well. im quite dependent on them now and would feel scared and anxious without them! How come you have to pay that much for a blood test??? i do mine for free.

My doctor says that the blood testing machine for me to check how thin my blood is costs $3,000. And my health insurance will not pay for the machine.

John.
