Has any one heard about Antiphopholipid syndrome? It's related to Lupus.

I would love to get chatting to anyone who has this problem or knows someone with it.

I am 6 weeks pregnant, and I have been told that it could affect my pregnancy...I'm very scared.

I am new here. I have antiphospholip antibody syndrome, I've had it for years. I had 2 miscarriages at the 8-9 weeks of pregnancy. I have since gone on to have 3 healthy children (now 11,13 and 15 yrs. old). I came to the board here today because I am looking for answers. My dr. just informed me I tested positive for Lupus. I need to search for answers myself, but if I can help you in any way, just ask.

Sahra,
If your dr. didn't explain it, it's a clotting disorder. There are 2 ways your blood can go. The platelets can stick together and form clots, or you bruise very easily. Depending on which way it goes, your dr. will determine if you need medication. Hope this helps.

Sahra,
One last thing...because you're nearing a time in your pregnancy when miscarriages most commonly occur, I will tell you what my dr. had told me. NO heavy lifting and stay off of your feet for as much as your pregnancy as you can. I know how frightening this is for you. The advice my dr. gave me enabled me to carry all three babies full term, and they were healthy.

I did take medication during pregnancy for epilepsy. They think that is what brought on this blood disorder, although I am no longer on it. Child number three was a complete surprise, came two weeks early at 5 lbs. All three came by C-section. We decided not to push our luck with another child. This is a tough disorder to manage for me as I cannot take anti-inflammatories. Looking for help and relief.

I have same thing.Other name is lupus anticoagulant syndrome. It doesn't mean you have lupus though. When i was diagnosed dr gave me a fact sheet that explained it.It is not very common.I was diagnosed with it after finding blood clots in my leg.Treatment is now coumadine but I had to give myself fragmin injections for 3 months first.Taking coumadine is much easier!!! except for the frequent blood tests.I also have rheumatoid arthritis and apparently it is common for someone that has lupus anticoagulant to also hve RA.

Sahra- I am new to this website- I was diagnosed with APS 5 years ago. I am 33, my mom has Lupus as well as the APS. I have had 7 miscarriages over the past 15 years, but also 2 beautiful daughters, 11 and 8. I hope all is well with your pregnancy. Because of a serious relationship with a man who has never had children- I went back to my Rheumatologist to discuss the dangers of getting pregnant at my age. I asked him if this disorder advances, if I am at a greater risk to throw a clot and not only losing the baby but losing my life as well. I basically felt as if he sidestepped the issue, and patted me on the head. I am awaiting my test results this week. If there is anyone out there who can perhaps give me some words of knowledge on this I would be extremely grateful. My last pregnancy was 2 years ago and the Lovenox and aspirin was not succesful for me. I am amazed at how little more info there is on this disorder even after 5 years and am feeling frustrated and a bit fearful. HELP!! ANy words would be helpful and appreciated.

I have just found this website whilst searching for info on Lupus Anticoagulant. I have had two PE's (clot in the lung) in the last three years. I have only just been diagnosed and also have another clotting disorder called Factor V Leiden. I was particularly interested in the comments about epilepsy as I also suffer from epilepsy. I take coumiden (not sure of spelling!) But have not been given any info hence searching around on the web. I am alarmed to find that the epilepsy may be related and would appreciate any info. I have also found that pre-eclampsia and growth retardation in my first pregnancy could be related to these disorders as well as a miscarriage I suffered. Any info would be appreciated.

Yes, anitphospholipid antibody syndrome (APLA) can be related to lupus, epilepsy, as well as miscarriages and blood clots. This explains my seizures, bruising, miscarriages. I am recovering from recent open-heart surgery as 3 clots have found their way into my heart. Will be on Coumadin for the rest of my life...small price to pay to stay alive.
