Hi - I'm new to your forum - it is so nice to find out that I am not the only one going through all of this! It is so hard sometimes. I am 47 and been going through peri for the last few years, had my tubes tied at age 37 when my last child was born. Does anyone know what the new numbers are for thyroid testing? I have been having alot of symptoms of low thyroid, so I had my doctor do a blood test. My TSH W/REFLEX TO FT4 (whatever that means?) came back at 2.30. My doctor mailed me the results and noted that it looks ok. I am going to see my gyno in April for my yearly checkup and for my irregular periods, plus bleeding between periods.....all the fun stuff!

Thanks - I will try that. Just wondering if anyone else had thyroid problems while going through peri?

Hi. I'm going through peri and have been for the past few years. I started it around age 39 and now I'm 43. I have read that if you take your temperature about 4 times a day (before meals) and the reading averages below 98.0 then you almost definately have hypothyroid; which I believe can leave you feeling depressed and yuck. I haven't had a 98.6 temperature reading in a long time. Its always real low- approx 96.8 - 97.3. Something to consider. Remember, we're all here for you.

Thanks for the info on temperature - I hadn't heard of that. I started using natural progesterone cream last month to see if that helps. I will be so glad when this is all overwith - just want to feel "normal" again.

Hi emmy47,
My dr. tested my thryoid in my early 40's b/c I felt I was having a hard time losing weight. Even tho, I never seem to have any of the other symptoms that classify a person as hypo. He said I was mild hypo so I've been on meds since.
I cruised thru my 30's/40's w/o any PMS problems even. When I turned 50, peri came on suddenly and hit me really hard. My dr. thought it had something to do w/my thryoid so off I went and had ultra sounds, saw an endo dr., etc. My thyroid tests show up fine but I felt like crap. In Dr. Christiane Northrup's book, she states how the thyroid may appear to be functioning fine (will show up fine in tests) when it really isn't. I think maybe that's why my peri symptoms affected me so fast and hard.
It is true about the temp too - mine is always in the 97.something. If it's ever even near 98.6, I feel like I have a fever. A good time to give yourself a test is right when you wake up. Of course, always get your thyroid checked by the dr. too.
