My husband has been put on Toprol XL due to a fast heartrate caused by another medication. He was only put on 25mg of Toprol XL. Now that the medication that caused the increase is now out of his system, he is looking to quit Toprol XL completely. His doctor said he could quit. He is already cutting the pills in half so he is taking only 12mg. Is it safe to cut the pills in quarters since it is an extended release pill? Will he get any adverse effects if he does cut them? He has been getting a pain in his lower left side by his stomach since taking quarters and I don't know if that has anything to do with it.
