My brother has just had his gallbladder removed through major surgery due to his HepB. The surgeon said his cirrhosis was advanced and if his liver does not function after the surgery he will need to be on the transplant list. Anyone experience or know of anyone who has experienced this and what the odds may be?

The need for liver transplants due to hepatitis C and B is not at all uncommon.
People who receive a liver transplant often do very well and live a good quality of life, even though the transplant usually does not cure the hepatitis itself. Many patients are released from the hospital within a few days to a week or so. They are even doing live liver transplants wherein a family member can donate part of his/her liver. The donor's liver grows back within a short period of time. While this surgery has risk, it is continuuing to improve in safety. We live in amazing times.
Best wishes to you and to your brother.
