I have been working out faithfully since January.....I am doing my weights (8lb. free weights) three times a week and i was doing two pilates classes a week.
I am doing cardio (but i probably should do more)........I haven't lost any weight. People are always telling me i look fine and i don't need to lose any weight but i think 6 or 7 lbs would have been nice.
I am 53 years old and I am 5'4". I weigh 145. I am in a size 8 which i guess is pretty good but i just thought i would have lost weight by now? My clothes do not feel any loser but my body looks different. any comments. (I know muscle weighs more than fat) thanks bride527

Well it's quite possible you have lost fat but haven't noticed a change on the scale due to the increase in muscle weight. I know you want to see the loss on the scale, but if your clothes are fitting differently, that is proof that your body is responding.

I know exactly how you feel. I have been working out (stability ball/weights) since August of last year, I didn't notice any scale changes until about 2 months ago when I started to add cardio/circuit training to my routine. I have since lost 11 pounds, so it took a while for the changes to show up on the scale. I was very discouraged until I remembered that muscle weighs more than fat, and I could tell I was losing something, I saw changes....I know I was losing inches before fat, so do not be discouraged. :) Keep it up!

Just remember guys mucle weights more than fat so you might be looseing the weight and also toneing up, maybe thats why you dont see any weight loss.

I have been working out hard for over two weeks and nothing has changed. I hope dearly it was the pill I was on. I went from 129 to 146 literally overnight. In all my working out, none of my clothes are fitting ANY better. I was happy in my size eight. I am holding back tears right now, I just did the test of trying on my jeans, and NOPE still don't fit and I don;t have the money to buy new ones (that's seven pairs that don't fit!) I am really upset. I am 5'5", 27. I lost 25 lbs at age 22 and have kept it off, even after my back surgery, then I started that stupid pill and you'd think I did nothing but eat! I am off the pill now, just two days though.....

Give your body a few days to adjust! 2 days isn't long enough for anything to happen, but hopefully being off the pill for a few weeks will allow your hormones to settle down. Meanwhile, just watch what you eat and workout...don't let yourself get depressed because that might make you end up eating and gaining more weight!

Also~ You have to make sure you're burning more calories than you're taking it. Calorielab.com is really great! You can type in almost any food, get the exact calorie count, and also see how many calories you burn in any activity~ I do a lot of pageants, and I'm pretty much a compulsive exerciser...I live by this thing!! Laura Kay: I use something similar, but I'm so careful to eat healthy, balanced food under 1100 calorie-a-day. I'm not unrealistic about weight loss: I know that 3,500 calories = 1 lb. I've been eating this way for ten days, and according to the formula, I should have lost around 2 lbs. I'd be satisfied with 0.5, but I'm heavier than when I started! Any thoughts? (Sorry original poster Bride--hot topic--not trying to usurp thread)

Make fat loss your goal rather than weight loss and you'll feel much better about your progress. If you're only looking to lose weight, you'll be smaller in the end, but you'll still be soft and squishy. You don't want that! If you make your goal to lose fat, which you're already doing, you'll be smaller, hard and more tone.
Watch your food intake too. Exercise is great, but only attributes 20% of the overall results. Your food intake accounts for the other 80%.

charcharlotte:
If you're exercising, it could be that you're replacing fat with muscle. You may also be retaining water (which usually makes you gain a pound or two, but will go away). Try cutting out dessert foods and stick with veggies and fruit instead! Do lots of exercise...remember~ you wanna burn more than you're taking in! Which is tough, but works! Let me know how it goes! you can workout as much as feasably possible, but you won't see any weight loss if you don't restrict your diet.
you never mentioned that before...so i'm not sure what it's like.
