Anyone have a clue as to what this means? About 2 months ago I started having a squeezing pain in my legs, like how your arm feels when having blood pressure taken. Dr. did sonogram of leg to rule out dvt. Then, 2 days later, lost partial vision in left eye for about 2 hours. Leg pain continues, fluctuating between a squeezing feeling and a burning feeling (mostly in back of thigh and ankle), along with cold dead numb feeling in right arm from elbow to shoulder, decreased sensation in face, and pain in upper left side of abdomen. Had mri of brain to rule out ms, normal. Only abnormal results are low mean platelet volume (6.5) and high platelet count (417) and high basophils (1.3%). I'm a 28 yr old female at my wits end. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Have you had your iron level checked? Iron deficiency can cause some of what you are experiencing. My ferritin level is extremely low (currently a 3) and often leads to anemia. As a result my platelet counts are always high (currently 571.) Your iron level can be checked by a simple blood test and if low your doctor will prescribe iron tablets. Unfortunately I can't seem to absorb oral iron adequately so I see a hematologist on a regular basis for IV iron. It takes a couple of hours and it's a pain in the arm but that's about it. It does boost the blood levels and I feel better.

Quiet..
You mentioned you are on IV Iron. For how long? Any side effects? Where do you have it done, how long does it take? How long till you feel it?
All my blood levels are low:
hemoglogin 10.9
hemocrit 33
mcv 71
mch 22.6
mchc 31.6
except:
rdw 18.4
platelet 500
I happen to have an MRI for a knee injury it showed bone marrow reconversion (???) so my doc says he wants me to have IV Iron. I am curious about it hope you dont mind sharing.
Or anyone else that is familiar...
Thanks- Cat
