:bouncing:

About one year ago red bumps(very sore and throbbing) started appearing for no apparent reason on both my hands and feet. Dr later decided that I must be allergic to alcohol, since it always became worse after a glass of wine. Dr gave me a cortisone injection and it disappeared for two months. Three months ago I started having sharp pains in my upper left leg,as well as weakness and numbness, this pain started spreading through out my whole body within 2 weeks. Dr though it might be guilliame barre syndrome and sent me for a test(not MRI) and I was sent home, being told that it might be the early signs of MS.

The symptoms are still pretty much the same, except that the weakness in my left leg and arm is getting worse and the dizziness is getting worse. I have also noticed a huge difference in my eyesight this last two weeks(blurred and cant focus). Sometimes my head feels as if there is something inside that is going to burst, but it doesnt last long enough to take painkillers for it. Twitches gets worse as I get tired, as well as the trembling(it is noticable). The weather also influences these symptomes. It feels as if the sharp pains and twitches are worse when it is cold out and when it is really warm I feel sleepy and very tired.

I know this is a mouthfull, but I really need an opinion on this, all the drs I've been to says it sounds like MS or ALS. I am going for a MRI later this month and I am worried that I will not be prepared for what they are going to find.

I would appreciate any response.
Greetings from South-Africa

hi sindiesa

welcome aboard

i do not think als has pain associated with it. lyme disease has pain, dizziness, headachs, twitching, vision changes, heart rythem changes and weakness as symptoms along with dozens more. lyme is called the great imitator and is very contrivertial and hard to diagnose. i suggest visiting the lyme threads.

Thanks for your reply ohio hunter.

I did visit the lyme disease site earlier to check the symptoms, but it is not the same. (I have not had contact with animals or been anywhere near a place where I could come in contact with ticks or anything related.)

I'm really down about the whole thing, as you mentioned als is not suppose to cause pain, but drs seem to think that my symptoms are serious. This is becoming a really expensive undiagnosed "thing." Somedays I feel fantastic, with only vague symptoms and other days (especialy when I'm tired) it is very scary. I sometimes feel so weak that I'm afraid that if I fall down (my one leg seems to drag from time to time) I will not be able to get up again.
I also have trouble remembering and comprehending and sometimes get confused with what I wanted to say or the words come out in different order than intended. This bothers me a lot, because it makes me feel stupid.

If you can suggest something else, I will be grateful.

Kind regards.

Hi Jon

Thanks again. Yes, I was born in SA.

How long have you had ALS and how are you feeling?

I'm sure that I will find out during April what is causing this, at this point I don't care what it is, just as long as it can be treated. The funny thing is, I do not feel sick!! It's just all these annoying symptoms. But today I feel great! So I'm thankful!

Keep well.

Regards from SA.

hi sindie

i was dxd with als in 4-02 then confirmed in 5-02. both drs refused to test for lyme even tho i told of a tick bite in 12-2000. i found a lyme expert in pennsilvania and was dxd with lyme in 7-02. i met 3 different lyme drs and they all stated almost all als that they tested have lyme.

good luck.

jon
