I injured my back two months ago. I have a damaged disc. I have read that once a person is past the acute stage of pain that they need to really increase there exercise in order to make the muscles strong around the disc but not do weight bearing exercises yet. I notice that when I stand for any longer then 15 minutes it really hurts the muscle on my left lower back. I wonder if I increase this time each day if I would build up endurance to standing and if I walk for long periods of time if it would strengthen it so it is not such a problem to walk anymore. I know I had a hard time sitting but I had to go back to work and was forced to sit for 6 hours at a time. It was tough at first but now I can sit without a problem. Maybe the same would apply to standing. Maybe I need to stand more or walk more to increase my endurance in those areas. Anyone know? Or could it make my problems worse. I do walk on a treadmill but only 20 minutes 3xweek. Maybe I should increase that.
