Would you recommend a mental rehabilitation center for a bipolar person? How much do you think they cost without inusrance?

My sister has been bipolar for 5 years and she lives with the family. At this point we all agree that it's best for her to get some serious attention. She just stays home doing nothing, I mean nothing just staring at the wall 24/7.

She's 25, on Geodone, loxapine and lithium.

I went to the hospital where I was diagnosed bipolar, didn't know or even think I had a problem. The good thing about that is you get to relax and let the drs figure out what kind of meds will really work for you in a controlled environment. Not sure about any kind of institute or cost, but I think it would be something to look into. What do her drs say about it? Good luck and let us know what happens. Love, Lori

What a sad life. Yes, there is hope out there. Get her involved in something. There should be a mental health social worker that can direct her in a path that opens up poss places that she can go.

Is she getting SSI and medicaid? If not, she should be. You would contact Social Security for that. For the other, contact your local mental health center. They could put you in touch with an agency that has case managers for the mentally ill and can get her placed somewhere where it could be beneficial. Best of luck!
