Hi, I am twenty seven and pregnant with my second son. I have van willesbrands disease. My doctor is planning on giving me nasl spray called DDVAP before delivery. I didn't have any thing like that for my first pregnancy and there was no bleeding during delivery only extended episiotomy bleeding after delivery. Has anyone else received this medicine during labor and delivery, are there side effects and can I still plan on breastfeeding right away? Also has anyone had any major plans during delivery with von willesbrands disease. My platelet count has been very low during this pregnancy as well, I'd appreciate talking to anyone in a similiar situation. Thanks. Swalt

Hi I am 37 and found out last year that I have mild von Willebrands. I have had one operation since finding out and I have to have a drip of DDAVP one hour b4 surgery. I am due for another operation next week and will have to have the drip again.
HOw long have you known that you have it. Apparently it is inherited from either parent and although you have it all your life, it fluctuates and may not show symptoms till later in life. I think it is a new thing that gyno's test for these days, so heaps of people could have it and not know.
Apparently there are no side affects appart from feeling hot or flushed during or just after having it and it leaves your body within 24 hours. I was very curious about this as sometimes doctors conveniently forget to inform us of the side effects of many drugs.
HOpe this has helped you and all goes well.

Hi! I am 12 weeks pregnant and have a subchronic hematoma. However due a mild case of van Willimbrand an mild factor VIII disorder I am not clotting well, hindering the hematoma to shrink and disappear.
I have had this condition by my youngerst son ( 2yrs) and was treated with DDVAP twice a week through IV. It did solve teh problem
My Dr. wants to start me again on this treatment.
Did anyone ever hear/experience such a case?
Is there any threat to the fetus by taking DDVAP?
Please let me know.
I did have 3 miscarriges due to my subchronic hematoma before I started the DDVAP.

Hi Newbie,
I have VonWillebrand's disease and am a few weeks pregnant. I have had the ddvap(not sure of exact letter order) nasal spray and the drip(by iv). I would definately consider using the drip over the spray. I have no side effects with the drip. I had severe migraines with the spray. The problem is that with the drip you get a specific amount of medicine, but the dose in the spray is much higher since it has to be absorbed by your skin. I'd really talk this over with u'r dr. The spray just takes a few 2nds, and the drip takes about 45 minutes...but the migraines from the spray lasted several days...I couldn't stand to watch tv, listen to the radio, and I could have the lights on...I don't think you'd want to be feeling like that right after delivery. Also with the spray, I only took 1/2 the dose and had these symptoms. I hope my info is helpful.
