my friend was bit on her foot by a barracuda or a shark (they aren't sure) while she was kite-boarding in PR a few months ago. She had a podiatrist look at the foot and he was concerned about osteomyelitis (she has some pain, numbness and discomfort, she recently had an MRI (waiting on the results). . is there anything that anyone can tell her about this type of infection and what steps she should take?
thanks.

If they think its osteomyeltis she will probly need some antibiotics and a special bone scan called an indium scan to diagnose it. I had osteomyelitis after a surgery from the screw they put in. If not treated fast and efficiently it can be very devastating. Usually an infectious disease doctor is brought in to help with antibiotic care. I had two surgeries and 2 months of IV antibiotics for mine. But it is pretty much gone now.
