Hi,

My name is Paula and my husbands name is Dean. He has just come back from the doctors to tell me that the disks in his back are detoriating. We are not quite sure what this means. Can anyone help us with some information or maybe a website that has some information.

Thanks...:)

Paula, I wish I could answer this for you. My brother was recently diagnosed with three paper-thin discs in his cervical (neck) vertabrae, and I also am interested in finding a treatment. Selby.

Hi Paula,
Sorry that hubby has problems with his spine. Is it the neck (cervical) or lower back (lumbar)? And how did the doctor come to that conclusion...MRI or scan or was he just going by the symptoms?
DDD (Degenerative Disc Disease) is a common disease, and can also be a lifelong downer if you dont get the right treatment.
There is a lot of info out there on the net ( try - http://spineuniverse.com/ )and this website that we're on has two places where some pretty helpful people are. One is Back Problems Forum and the other is Spinal Cord Disorders Forum. Before you go there be armed with info on hubby's condition such as:
1. which discs are involved
2. how badly are they affected
3. what treatment has he been prescribed
4. if it involves an operation then which one is recommended and have you got ALL the facts on alternative treatment, risks, success/failure rates etc., BEFORE you decide to go ahead.
The forum's are full of all sorts of info and help... and hook yourself up to this site before you go, then you will know what they're talking about. http://medical-dictionary.com/
Hope I've helped, best of luck

HI! I was diagnosed with DDD in my lumbar region at the age of 25. A couple of shots for pain I can count on one hand in the last ten years. At one point, was told that only surgery could really fix it (fusing of the spine), but I have opted not to do this. It bothered me alot in my 20s, not as much in my 30s, but still have bad days.
Wish you the best!
