View Full Version : Can somebody help a dumb guy out?

I can't figure out how to get my hair how I want it, so I'm asking for your help...

As the title states, I'm a guy. I have shorter, straight hair. Basically I want to give my hair a little life - I don't put anything in it and just comb it straight down basically. I kind of want a mild "messy" look, but don't want my hair looking wet or all greasy. Basically something like Ty Pennington or whatever his name is on Extreme Makeover Home Edition. I want it to be (or at least appear) dry, but keep it's shape.

After I wash and dry my hair, I can shape it exactly how I'd like it to stay, but I've never had luck getting it to STAY that way. The only thing I've tried is a shine wax, and while it helped some, it seemed that to get the hold I wanted, it'd look wet.

So what do you recommend? I'm sure there's something that is kind of universally used (or done) to get it that way, but I don't know what! :)

Thanks a ton for any help!

Hm, I'm a girl so I don't know if I can help you much. But here is what my guy does: he washes it in the morning and then puts some gel stuff in it, fixes it how he wants, and then goes out. If you want a particular style you probably need to see a hairstylist. They could show you how to do it according to your hair type and style. Good luck!

PS. The stuff hubby uses is by Loreal and it's in a white tube. You can get it at the grocery store. It seems to work pretty well for him.

Spray it with a "freeze" hair spray. Style your hair the way you want it, then spray it with some heavy duty hair spray and continue to style it. Lift pieces up and "spike" it. The messy look is very deliberate.

You can also put some gel in it before you blow dry. Brush it and dry it at the same time so it doesnt look wet. Then follow up with your freeze hair spray. The gel you put in prior to blow drying will make the hairspray "take" much better.

Love,

Madonna

a creme pomade would work. not stiff, crunchy, or shiny. very pliable. got2b has a great one... unfortunately, it smells like vanilla icing.
