I'm currently on Lestrin 1.5/30's and take 4 packets (12 weeks of pills) to allow only 4 periods/year. I know the Seasonale Packet is already set up for that use, but my gyno was against it when it first came out, plus I found out my insurance company has put this pill in the 3rd tier (meaning more expensive). This method is working for me, but I wonder about the long term side effects? Have we heard of any potential problems in the future from doing this for a long period of time?

hello-
I also use this method however, I am on mircette. I have been on this method for almost two years. It is the best thing I have ever done. I can't stand having my period since it lasts so long. My doctor told me that as long as I am not having break through bleeding and everything seems normal then it is perfectly fine to only get my period four times a year. I did try seasonale and it was the worst thing I ever did. I am not the type of person that has random moods swings and this pill caused me to have horrible mood swings. I also gained almost 10 pounds within a couple months to include atleast a 1/2 cup size bigger. I am a petite person and I was so unhappy with the weight gain. I am back on the mircette and doing whatever I can to lose the 10 lbs I gained. I regret ever going on seasonale.

Im on seasonale and I agree, it's more problems then anything. With the break through bleeding you end up with more then 4 periods a year (im currently suppose to be having mine and im not?!).
I am thinking about switching pills after my next set is through. Im going to talk to my gyno about this method with other pills.
I havent had weight gain on seasonale. I had weight gain on estrostepFE and since switching I have been the same weight. I have had a hard time trying to lose though thats for sure!
