Hi, does anyone have any experience with living with someone who has a MTBI (Mild Tramatic Brain Injury)? I would just like to touch base with someone who understands all the 'stuff' that comes with it. Thanx!

I'm a mother of 3 children, the youngest (15) was in a near drowning accident when she was only 2 years old. I have been her sole caregiver for almost 13 years now. I know what it's like to live with someone whom has a brain injury. She started off in an almost vegetable like state, but today she can talk, and eat by herself. It can make for great experiences, and also for some long days/nights. When she was first out of the hospital they suggested placing her in an institution. I wouldn't hear of it, and she has come such a long way from there. Her life is great, but it is far from simple for me. I'm thinking this is the type of situation you are talking about, if not, just ignore me ok? http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif Thanks Rose Alles 06-26-2001, 10:22 PM If the brain injury is due to lack of oxygen (like a near drowning), have you looked into hyperbaric oxygen treatment? From what I understand, if treated ASAP, that is up to a few weeks after injury, it MAY help reverse some of the symptoms. |
