View Full Version : throat mucus, i think its diet/allergies

Hey guys,

I've constantly got mucus in my throat, when i just swallow (as you do, periodically), i can feel mucus going down with the swallow. However, this mucus is not really thick as some other peoples. Sometimes it is and I have to really force it down (or else i just take a sip of water and it flows down my throat very easily if its hard to get out without the water)

I eat dairy
I eat beef
I eat sugar

Eliminate all these?

or is it some kind of medical deficieny

When I gargle with warm salt water, my throat is clear for minute or two, then it comes back, I'm considering quitting all of the above foods, oh, and does wheat/bread cause mucus? I've heard people say it does

for about 3 days I tried drinking up to 4 litres of water a day, that helped kinda, but the trade off for the urination count is NOT worth it (is there a better way to get your daily waters intake without urinating every 10-15 minutes? Daily as in 3 litres

Thanks, very unorganized topic but I'm tired and frustrated

do you have a fever? if so, you may have an infection and should go to the doctor just to rule that out. if it's not an infection, it could be a cold or allergies. if it's post nasal drip then your body is developing the mucus in order to move something out that it doesn't want- then it could be an allergy. mucinex helps break up phlegm but it won't help dry out your sinuses so you'll be able to clear your throat better, but all the mucus will still be there. i would go to see your doctor, you may want a prescription.

Hi Gaedon I have the same problem, and it makes me feel sick too. I think it is post nasal drip, which is where snot essential goes down your throat all the time. I have tried blowing my nose more often, but that is no good, and I wonder if I have an allergy, because I feel sick more when I eat. I'm stuck at the moment, because I don't know how to test for allergies, but I do feel more ill when I eat bread, but also when I drink milk too, so I dunno.

How much does that Mucinex stuff cost?

lexxx - Im quitting all forms of dairy for 4 weeks and seeing if that does anything, can post nasal drip be CURED or is it something that can only be treated?

When I was a kid, I constantly had PND and the doctor told my mom that some people just have more mucus than others. What a bunch of balony! IMO PND is the first symptom of allergies in many people. I have severe allergies, but I have never been the sneezy, runny nose type, just PND, which when not treated properly now progresses into stuffiness, and eventually sinus infections.

i have the same problem at night only and while i am asleep and some time i shoke and this is not fun. you see i take med. and it just dry my hole mouth specially if i snore.so you might want to make sure with a tape recorder or ask your partner to check and see when your asleep you snore. this has to do with dry mouth. med does this to us. well i hope i was able to help god bless america by now

Just a thought, Gaedon. I assumed my throat mucous was caused by allerggies, too. But I have found its as much from LPR (reflux) I, too was going to go the dairy route, but tried a natural Acid ease product which is helping.

Mucinex can be bought over the counter at any pharmacy for about ten dollars.

So if I get this Mucinex stuff, would it be ok to get back to my normal dairy habits?
