 I have had chronic pain off and on for approx 20 years. I have had all types of tests and been referred to different doctors. One doctor said it was intercoastal nerve pain another neuropathy. I am currently taking 800 mgs Neurontin a day. (Some days okay some very painful). The pain is under my right breast (upper quardrant) region. I have never been in any type of accident or had any type of surgery or trauma that the doctors say that might accompany this type of pain. Just the touch of my clothing sometimes sends off a series of shooting and burning pain. I turn over in the bed, get up from a chair someone touches my shoulder or I shake hands with someone same thing happens. I went to my primary doctor yesterday and he suggested acupuncture. I have never had this I have looked up on internet and seems to be very easy compared to some tests I have had. If someone has experienced this type of pain can you tell me what you did to help. Sometimes I wonder is this all in my head but another pain starts and I know not!

Thanks for all replies.

Thanks to all that read my post. I guess I am the only one in the world with such a "type" of pain. I guess I will just go on hurting, visiting my pain management doctor, taking medication and praying.

Hope today was a better day for everyone.

I know what you mean when you say you wonder if it's all in your head. I have chronic pain in my mouth (feels like I'm having continuous dental surgery!). I am so sick of going to doctors and specialists, tests, medications - nothing helps. Mine is different from yours in that it isn't set off by anything like touch - it's just constant, although varying in intensity. Usually it's better in the morning and gets worse as the day goes on. The "official" diagnosis is "phantom" or central pain, and it seems the only solution is medication, although I have yet to find a medication that works and that I can tolerate. The side effects are always worse than the pain! I have tried accupuncture - three different times with three different accupuncturists - and it didn't help in the least. However, I have heard from people with your kind of pain who have been helped, so it probably is worth a try. All I can say is hang in there. It's not all in your head. I guess we just have to keep trying things.
