View Full Version : New And Confused About Blood Work

Hi, this is my first post. I received the results from some blood tests and I'm confused. The tests were done after 12 hr. fasting. BUN is elevated, serum potassium was elevated, total cholesterol was 220 (that's actually down) and trigylcerides were back to normal again. My platelets were also high although RBC and WBC counts were normal. Hemoglobin was normal. I am 51, female, slightly overweight, moderately active, but am always very tired. I take quite a few meds. B.P. is OK- it was 114/70 the morning of these tests. At one time I had very high alkaline phsophatase but the levels dropped to normal after 6 months and have remained normal for 15 years. I am insulin-resistant- my last A1C was 4.7. Suggestions or comments anyone?

I just heard from my doctor- they repeated the bloodwork last week and the platelets are still elevated, although not a lot. I itch constantly. Please help!

Some people have high platelets and they need to take a medicine. I don't know much about this but I think you can find in this board about their experience.

One thing that I had read is abnormally high platelet levels (thrombocytosis) may indicate either a benign reaction to an infection, surgery, or certain medications; or a disease like polycythemia vera, in which the bone marrow produces too many platelets too quickly.

wish you healthy

BUN is elevated

That would concern me. I am not sure about the high platelates, but BUN is a good indicator of waste in your bloodstream. Call, maybe it has something to do with why you are itchy.
