I have been thinking alot about colon/rectal cancer and when I started reading how young some people are that get it, I was terrified.
My husband and I are 42 and 35, and cancer does not run in either of our families.
My question is this: When (at what age) should people be tested? And, for those of you that actually have colon or rectal cancer, what were your first symptoms?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I was diagnosed with colorectal cancer, at the age of 36. Fortuantely, it was caught early. My main symptoms were severe constipation, tiredness and blood in the stools, that would come and go. Obviously, everyone experiences the first two things at one time or another. If you ever have blood in your stools, get tested, no matter how old or young you are. Medical guidelines state that the average person should have their first colonoscopy at 50, but, after having gone through my ordeal and having met many other people below 50, with this disease, I think one should first be tested at 40. Colon cancer is so preventable. After your first test, you can wait 7 to 10 years for another one. I'd say, if you are experiencing any chronic constipation, see your doctor and seek his or her advice. All the best.
