Veronica24,
I don't know how similar the two diseases are, but I had ITP (Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia Purpura). I have been on Prednisone several times for various lengths of time. Feel free to ask any questions you may have!

I had TTP, but had a really easy time compared to many people. One of my male cousins had ITP. They never suggested prednisone for me, but my boyfriend and one of my cousins have taken prednisone. My friend didn't take it for long I don't think so she didn't have many side effects of that, but my boyfriend did experience some side effects. The male cousin who had ITP had a spleenectomy. For my treatment, I had plasma pheresis, blood transfusion and plasma infusion (or was it platelets?).

My daughter has ITP and she is 7months pregnant. It has been hard to deal with. I believe your problem is the same. Her doctor has been useing (IGG )to treat her along with predisone. With IGG treatment we have heard , you may be able to get off the predisone. The IGG in some cases keeps the patients stable for some time if not for good. This did work on my daughter at first but her platlets continue to keep going down. She goes down to 0 . We are on are way to Duke UV for other treatments because of her pregnancy. Hope I have been of some help .

HI I HAD TTP GOING ON 6 YEARS FREE OF THE DISEASE. I HAD THE SPLEEN REMOVED AND ALL THE OTHER FUN THINGS.. I ALSO HAD VERY BAD THINGS HAPPEN.. I LOST TWO CHILDREN WHILE I CARRIED THEM. I STILL HAVE ALL THE WEIGHT THAT I GAINED WHILE ON DRUGS PRESCRIBED DURING THE ORDEAL. BUT I AM PROUD TO SAY I HAVE A HEALTHY DAUGHTER THAT IS 7 YEARS OLD AND NO SIGN OF THE DISEASE.
