I just came back from docs after having a abdominal ultrasound, she said I had a cyst on ovary and a "bulky" uterus, but everything was fine she would just repeat the ultrasound in 2 months.
What is a "bulky uterus"?
I'm a premenapausal 39yr old, having health issues for 2yrs now.I recently became really concerned about ovarian cancer.

Hypokelly,

I'm having my abdominal ultrasound on Tuesday and I too am very very worried about the possibility of it being cancer. Like you, I am pre-menopausal (33).

I went to see my doctor last week and he felt a mass in my abdomen. I went to see him because I suspcted IBS and even he said it was IBS until he felt my tummy - symptoms are the same. I'm also awaiting blood test results.

I'm dreading the ultrasound as I've never had one before. I'm dreading the results even more. Can they tell you straight away what they find or does it have to go to your doctor?

A bulky uterus can mean alot of things......not necessarily cancer. It could be that the endometrial lining is building up for your next menstrual cycle. With my first transvaginal ultrasound they found a bulky uterus and a mass, so they said to come back after my cycle. After my cycle, the ultrasound showed the mass and bulkiness were gone. They figured the mass had been a blood clot and passed with the rest of the uterine buildup. The second ultrasound was clearer and found fibroids and ovarian cysts. The third ultrasound showed one cyst had ruptured and another growing. So, I am going to have another ultrasound in a few weeks. Things in that area change from month to month, so it's best to watch it, before trying anything drastic. Cysts are more common in women of childbearing years, and disappear lots of the time. They are a little more concerned when a woman is menopausal. I am just beginning to have irregular cycles (I'm over 50), so they are just watching the cysts for now. It's so nerve-racking, never getting a firm diagnosis....just another test. Good luck, I hope everything turns out fine.

thanks for replying Rowdy & Ginger, have not been on the computer for a while.
Rowdy, hope your ultrasound goes well,I don't think you will get your results from the tech, you will probably have to see the doc again. I didn't get a transvaginal ultrasound (i was suppose to, but the tech said if we can't find anything she would do the trans,I kinda of wish they had done it for the simple reason things get missed)
I started my period 2 days ago(hopefully it doesn't last as long as the last one)I have HUGE clots(sorry)very little bleeding...just clots is this normal?Could this be the cause of the "bulky uterus"?Is this the reason some women need a D&C?this clot business has been going on for quite a few months now.
I don't know if any of this indicates ovarian cancer, but I do have alot of abdominal discomfort, bloating, tenderness during sex and bladder issues.

I was searching details and stumbled upon this topic Knowing I am SEVERAL months past your posting date I thought I would post some details as well just in case there are other people searching the same topic.

I went in for my regular annual physical 2 weeks ago. My doctor said my uterus felt bulky - just like she has said every year for the past 3 or 4 years now. Coupled together with a very heavy period every month and lots of clotting as well (sorry to be gross) I have tried to take the pill to help with heavyness of my period to no success. Taking the pill either did not work or it made me fill very sick. Last week I went for an ultrasound both a regular ultrasound as well as a trans vaginal. I received a call from the doctor last week wanting to talk to me about the results of the ultrasounds. I am not sure what they found, but since the Doctor wants to see me I am assuming there is something there she is not 100% comfortable with.

I have been talking to some other women who have been in somewhat similar situations as myself and have ended up getting a hysterectomy (sp??) - Part of me is interested in knowing more about my possible option with this so I can be done with this whole thing. I am done with having kids, and the issues I have every month I am thinking are probably worth the operation. For the other ladies who have already posted, I hope all went (or is going) well for you with your situation. Perhaps it would be a good thing to continue to post on here for future references for other women.

Thank you for your continuing posts, i have found them most helpful. My doc has remarked on my bulky uterus, not a phrase i'd heard before. I have found your post informative. I presented with bleeding between periods and also post coital bleeding. I am currently undergoing investigations.

I totally understand your concerns, I've just had a transabdominal and transvaginal (last week). Doctor phoned me yesterday and told me that the hospital need to do another scan on my right ovaryin 6 weeks, also told me I have a fibroid mass and it is bulky, he mentioned that I might have to go to oncology and that it usually takes 6 months for an appointment to come through. I'm really worried but feel like I'm moaning if I discuss it with my husband. Am I just being negative by thinking the worst? Any info would help.
