Hi.

My daughter is almost 6 and has cystic fibrosis related diabetes. We just learned of her diabetes diagnosis in January. She was diagnosed with CF when she was 6 months. Do any of you or your children have CFRD? We are finding it a challenge to get her to eat...she eats like a little bird and catches one cold after another. In the evenings and mornings her lungs are congested..We are hoping that now that it is finally spring, she will begin to get stronger and develop an appetite....What should I expect? She weighs 35 lbs... Any advice would be greatly appreciated...(We give her physio twice a day and she is taking TOBI and DNase).

She had a followup appt at the Toronto Sick Kids Hospital. She has had difficulties with her right lower and right middle lobes of her lungs. She has had 3 hospital admissions with IV antibiotics. It looks like she will have to have a lobectomy unfortunately...However, her quality of life should improve as the infectious portions of her lungs will be removed. The doctors anticipate that her appetite will improve and that she will once again begin to grow...I am hoping that her blood sugar will normalize once this chronic infection disappears...We will cross our fingers.
When was your oldest daughter diagnosed with CFRD?
