Hi.....i been to the nurse/doctor etc my treatment is a puff of ventolin twice aday and one puff a day with becotide250(was on 2 puffs but it didnt make any difference)...after ventolin i hit the 800 stop on the nurses peak flow meter :o (35year male) but this gradually goes down thru out the day to 600 in which i feel tight and then take ventolin...all in all the treatment i am on is just right imo.....BUT i am aware i should be around 650 for my age/sex  but to me i feel wheezy at that???I never let it go below 580 (around 80%).
BUT my 2 questions are:-
1...If a normal person without asthma took ventolin would they record a higher peak flow?
2...I never cough  This confuses me as i thought asthma was mucous which blocks the airways and then forces you to cough to expell it???What form of asthma could i have or is it just my anxiety problem doin this???
Thanks for your time..i know i aint a serious sufferer but it still does feel unpleasant.

I personally never heard of it being Asthma and never any coughing. Do you get short of breath, or feel breathless at times?
See I am different, I don't wheeze that often, but I get short of breath, I cough, and my chest gets really tight majority of the time, I even feel weak and at times lightheaded.
Asthma can be kind of difficult to detect at times. It does sound like anxiety to me, but I am not a doctor. Is chest tightness the only symptom you get?

I don't cough much either, and usually when I do cough it's just in the shower or other humid places. Often times, I just get short of breath/tight chest feeling...and I don't wheeze (least I've never heard myself wheeze).

I think asthma is very different for people. I never dreamed I had asthma because I never wheeze, never had an asthma attack, cold air doesn't bother me (in fact I feel better when its cold outside), and only cough when I am sick with a cold or bronchitis. But I do get short of breath when I exert myself. But I have had two specialists diagnose me with asthma. I am a 48 year old female, 5'3", and my normal peak flow is 470-500. That is really a high normal for my age and height. I am on Advair twice a day and nothing else. Albuterol doesn't really help me. I do have hayfever and sinus problems. The only reason I went back to the doctor was I had a feeling I couldn't get a good breath, but nothing major. I thought it was anxiety as I was going through a really tough time with my son then. I still think it was anxiety. I was worried I had emphysema since my father died with it . But I have never smoked and the doctor said it would be very rare. But I am improving with Advair. I have been on it a year almost and my peak flow has gone from 400 to almost 500 and I can exercise better than ever.

My peak flow is great, but my small airways aren't too good. They are about 50% of normal. That is what the spirometry test showed, but I don't really notice it. I am building up my lungs by exercise. I can now walk/run two miles in 30 minutes. I really need to lose weight also. I am about 70 lbs overweight.

diff people have diff type of conditions. I knew a doctor who himself only had asthma
at the age of 25 which is unlike most who had it since young. But he managed to cure himself back to normal level.
