So I'm wondering if I can go ahead and take the 75mg also, here soon..????? any advice will be helpful.. I did call my Dr. office, shes' not in..til Monday.. When I'm suppose to take the 75mg.. It'd just be 112mgs I know someones dosage is higher than 112.. Think I'll go ahead and take the 75mg..

It takes weeks to start working - you won't notice a difference right away. Follow the instructions your doctor gave you, and hang in there!

I just started a week ago and didnt feel really anything with the 75mg after 3 or 4 days I was supposed to wait 2 weeks but ive been looking for a solution for too long so on my 4th day I went from 75 to 150 of xr with no problem and its been about 2 days. Its not that big of a deal going higher actually Ive read that effexor only works on serotonin at 75mg and only starts inhibiting the reuptake up norepinepherine at doses of 150or higher.

I'm on 112mgs.of Effexor and I understand how it works on the serotonin but what does the last part of your statement mean.(inhibiting the reuptake up norepinepherine). What does norepinepherine mean? RAGDOLl

I'm pretty sure serotonin is a chemical that your body processes and makes a person happy. They say some people are depressed because they don't have enough serotoninin in .their brain. That's my undestanding of it,correct me if I'm wrong,TTFN RAGDOLL

Yeah I understand, I'm going for my 2nd appointment this afternoon to my therapist.. I got alot of stuff I gotta deal with, and errands to run. ohh what a day, what a day. No money for anything yet, Really can't wait to go to a dark(dim litted) place and hide, with a few rounds of the hard stuff to get me away. Oh wow,! that makes me sound really depressed. I could say more, but I'm not going to, I can't I have a little girl I need to look out for.... Oh crap.. Alright, gotta go run errands.
TTFN--thats cool

All meds will make you feel wierd at the beginning sedation nausea dizzyness, headache insomnia all that good stuff some have different profiles for different people the idea is to find one that helps well and you can stand the side effects many will go away after 2 weeks sexual issues if you have them usually stay through the course of treatment just wait about 3 weeks to see if the effects subside. Serotonin Norepinepherine and dopamine are 3 of the many nuerotransmitters thought to be involved in the regulation of mood in the brain. Effexor inhibits the reuptake of serotonin and norepinepherine instead of just serotonin like prozac or zoloft by inhibiting the reuptake more of these chemicals supposedly are available inbetween the nueronal synapses so they can communicate better with eachother. Go to one of the anti depressant websites they usually have audio and video clips of the explanation. I believe the serotonin is the key though but thats just me.

I had been on Zoloft for a while and it quit working. I had tried Prozac when it was touted to be the newest be all end all of anti depressants with no effect. Am on 75mg of Effexor XR now. Wondering now if these drugs actually change the way the brain produces the chemicals and become imbalanced because of them? In other words, could the Zoloft have quit working because there was a reaction in my brain that caused other chemicals to work incorrectly?

Norepinephrine and Serotonin are neurotransmitters. They are chemicals in your brain. They're the way your brain cells communicate with each other. What happens in mental illnesses is that the brain cells are receiving too much or not enough of a neurotransmitter. The ones associated with depression are Serotonin, Norepinephrine, and Dopamine. We can't affect the amount of these chemicals that your brain produces - we can only effect how they are used.

So say a cell produces a normal amount of a neurotransmitter. It releases the neurotransmitter to the next cell, but it ALSO reabsorbs some of the neurotransmitter itself. If it reabsorbs (reuptakes) too much, the next cell doesn't get enough. Andidepressants stop the cells from reuptaking too much of their own serotonin and/or norepinephrine.

Clear as mud?
