View Full Version : Can't Think Anymore.

Is it possible that the meds (I'm on Effexor XR) can make you process thoughts slower? As weird as it sounds, I feel as if I am unable to think anymore. My thought process is slow and I can't seem to make connections between things. I also find that my memory is going. Is this possible or am I just stupid?

Dear Misanthrope:

You express yourself so well that it is perfectly obvious you are not stupid. My feeling is that this slowing down of your brain is a symptom of depression.

Have you been on Effexor long? If not, you may want to give yourself a little more time for your body to adjust to it.

Alternatively, you might ask your doctor about this: he or she might want to alter your meds or even add something like Concerta to help you focus.

My sympathies are with you: I had this symptom for many years--but I don't have straight-out depression; it's compounded by PTSD. I'm now attending college courses to help me find my focus and discipline again.

Best of luck to you and please remember this is only a SYMPTOM!!!

Thanks RedandRed, I've been on Effexor (225mg) for about a year now. I often find myself tired, drowsy and feeling rather lazy in general. Sometimes I'd wake up at noon, lunch, then go right back to bed at 2pm and wake at 7pm for dinner. I hate feeling so burnt out all the time. Everytime I think about schoolwork, the drowsiness get 10 times worse. I used to try really hard in school and got good marks, but now my marks are dwindling and it's like I can't absorb any of the material that's being taught to me anymore. I do try to get good marks, but it's no use...I can't seem to get the point in anything and my thoughts are so disorganized...I can't seem to keep track of more than three variables at a time.
