I am going to try to buy some PEA , the ingredient in CHOCOLATE of all things, that eases depression and creates that good "chocolate feeling." Phenylethylamine (PEA) increases attention and activity in animals and has been shown to relieve depression in 60% of depressed patients. :D Some experts thought that a lack of PEA may be the cause of a common form of depressive illness. Fourteen patients with major depression that responded to PEA treatment (10-60 mg orally per da were reexamined 20 to 50 weeks later. The antidepressant response had been maintained in 12 patients!!Effective dosage did not change with time. There were no apparent side effects. PEA produces LASTING relief of depression in a significant number of patients, including some unresponsive to the standard drugs. PEA improves mood as rapidly as amphetamine but does not produce tolerance. I'm doing searches this morning on phenyethylamine and see where I can buy this stuff if it's possible :jester:

Hello:
PEA, or Phenylethlamine, is commonly derived from a product called
DL-Phenylanine, which is on the market.
As an amino acid type, quantity is not important, except if you take an extraordinary amount you may suffer, as with anything. Taking large amounts is useless as it will most likely be passed through and out of your body.
DL-Phenylanine consists of d-Phenylanine and l-Phenylanine. D-Phen for short will improve health, while L-Phen is the one that converts to Phenylethlamine.
DL-Phenylanine is widely marketed, inexpensive, and commonly used.
Being an amino acid type, dl-Phenylanine should not have any side effects. But as with any natural product, you should ask your doctor or a pharmacist about what drugs and natural products you are already taking, any physical or mental conditions, and if dl-Phenylanine is safe for you.
This is important because side-effects range from mental retardation to panic attacks, when taken with certain medicines or with certain metabolisms.
My psych THINKS this MAY be worth looking at, but is still researching it.

Oh STOP....talk about cruel!!! lol. My inlaws are from the UK and when anyone travels back there they bring good chocolate back, but come ON, what the heck difference is there between Canadian and UK chocolate. You haven't tried any US chocolate...have you...? I grew up in Canada. I want a bag of Dad's Cookies!
(I "suffer", living in HI) ;)

I did a search on PEA. It skyrockets during exercise and explains runners high. I wonder if there are side effects to the supplements?

Chocolate definitely lifts my mood. It has to be dark bittersweet chocolate with a high cocoa content. Semi sweet or milk chocolate doesn't have enough of it. There are hundreds of chemicals in cocoa and several are thought to elevate mood.
