My blood pressure is fine but my at rest pulse is always over 100. What is the best med to lower the pulse without nasty side effects?

A calcium channel blocker in the diatizem family lowers heart rate.

Thanks. I think I got this answer from you before. I was on Cardizem for a week but still had high pulse in the morning hrs. and would only come down as low as 90 by evening. The doctor had me quit it, but I think I need to go back on. I'm waiting for him to call me back today. Just wondered if anyone thought something besides Cardizem was the way to go.

That kind of CCB--cardizem, tiazac etc.--takes maybe 2 weeks to work. The pulse
lowering increases with a higher dosage. So stay with it and increase as need be.

From what I've read, the best calcium channel blocker for those who need more heart-rate slowing and less BP reduction is generic verapamil.
kaykay,
For JUST the heart-rate lowering aspects of a drug, I don't think ANYTHING beats a weak beta-blocker...maybe propranolol in low dosage.
Or from PERSONAL experience, one nadolol twice a WEEK! (yep, I meant to type WEEK but I doubt your doctor would understand, bet palamedes will:D:D)
All the beta blockers are generic and cost only pennies.

I didn't suggest a beta blocker because so many people have problems on them, and once you start them, you can't just stop but must wean off.
Some people do fine on beta blockers with no side effects, and may be something to try.
Just understand that there may be complications with beta blockers. I wouldn't use it as a first possiblility.
