Hi,
Has anyone had an mri done without contrast (gadolinium) and then with contrast and had nothing show up on the without contrast mri and something bad show up on the contrast mri. I ask as i just saw my doc and he said that my mri without contrast was clean. so no need to do one with contrast.
thank you

Hi Dave,
I'm bumping this up for you in the hopes that somebody else will respond.
My daughter's lesions show up on both types of MRIs - the enhanced ones show the current activity.
Did you ask your doc about a lumbar puncture?
Take care,
Julie

Hi Dave,
My neuro insists on both with and without contrast MRI's. When I asked him why he said that with contrast can sometimes distinguish what without contrast can't.
Ask your doctor. Maybe he has new information on this that we could all learn about.

Hi Dave,
The first MRI's I had done were without contrast and nothing ever showed up. These were always order by my PCP. It wasn't until I went to a neurologist that I had an MRI with contrast and that was when the lesions showed up. So from my experience, I'd say you should have one with contrast.
Good luck and keep us posted.
