View Full Version : looking for some advice

I was hoping to get some advice. I have had migraines for the past 20 years or so. I was just in the ER due to one a few weeks ago after I was sick and unable to keep anything down for about 3 days. Got so dehydrated they had a hard time getting an IV started. I was just recently given Imitrex to help with the headaches. I am also taking Neurontin for an unrelated condition, which seems to have reduced the number I was having.

My question is in regards to my mother. She too also suffers from migraines, but has never been to a doctor for them. She had gotten a sample of Maxalt, which knocked it out in about 20 - 30 minutes. The problem is, she has recently been laid-off from her job and can't afford the insurance premiums. She does not have a rx for any meds and can't really afford to go to the doctor's office without the insurance. Any suggestions or advice would be great.

I have had migraines since i was 3yrs old. Now being almost 24, i still have them at least 3-4 times a week. I've found that Advil migraine works the best, i've taken imtrex, axcert, and i've found that advil migraine works better than both of them. My doctor also told me that eatting a lot of food products that have a lot of enzymes such as cheese, yogurt, etc. will cause migraines. if either of you eat a lot of cheese or such, cut back and see if that helps any.

Will the local health department help her?? Don't know if it depends on what state you are in but if you don't have health insurance I thought they would give you medical care. Good luck!
