Hi Jesse Joe,
Those are extreme symtoms, you should get your mom into the Dr. or the ER to be check out. Migraines are not that extreme. She could have something else very serious going on. Its better to be safe than sorry.

I just reread your post. You say your mom as already seen DRs. Thats terrible. Have they ordered any tests? Even when my daughter started having migraines they ordered a Head CT scan right away. AFter that they did blood work and and MRI.

Have they run any tests on your mom?

If your dad won't do anything, what can you do?

does she drink a lot of diet soda, or eat food with artifical sweetener in them.. that stuff will cause all those symptom. do some research on artifical sweetener and you will be amazed at what you will find. I was shocked when i found out that that stuff can cause signs of MS. but dont really have MS. will thats all the advise that i can give you.

My advice is to keep trying. Keep taking her to the hospital and be forceful to the point of getting your way. Not yelling or causing a scene but knowing what you want and getting it. It's a shame that people without insurance are treated the way they are but it's the way things are ran. The hospitals want paid too and if they know they will not be getting it from you they push you out fast. Don't let them do it. Insist on them doing something. Mention your fears of a stroke to them. Keep talking until someone listens. Good luck.

KEEP TRYING!!! Don't give up!!! ((HUGS)) I have been learning about migraines for 5 years now. I have never heard of numbness on the extremities because of one. (Without med side effect being the cause) Some of the other symptoms don't fit either. I would suggest showing your dad some of the well known websites below.

http://www.americanheart.org/presenter.jhtml?identifier=4742

Maybe you can call and talk to these people:
For stroke information, call the American Stroke Association at 1-888-4-STROKE.

This is other info I found:
http://www.stroke-symptoms.com

· Sudden numbness or weakness of the face, arm or leg, especially on one side of the body
· Sudden confusion, trouble speaking or understanding
· Sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes
· Sudden trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance or coordination
· Sudden, severe headache with no known cause

Jessi Jo,
What a wonderful daughter your mom has! Maybe your dad feels helpless because of not having insurance.

Hope things work out for you and her soon!

Jessie,
Strange I just got an email the other day about recognizing a stroke. Here is what it said briefly. The ASA also has the same thing listed so I know this is true.
Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions:

*Ask the individual to SMILE. (facial weakness)
*Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS. (arm weakness)
*Ask the person to SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE. (speech problems)

If he or she has trouble with any of these tasks, call 9-1-1 immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.

Hope this helps with understanding your mom's symptoms better. Coming from a migraine mother, having them myself, and my 8 yr old son having them since 4 yrs old -I have seen almost every type of migraine out there - and I have never seen or heard of the the single-sided numbness.
Post soon and let us know how your mom is doing this week.
