Hello everyone, I have a question my 4year old child has been vomiting and has really bad diarrhea, she also hasgenital rashes,we took her to the emergency room and they said that a stomach virus causes genital rashes? she has been telling me that her genitals did itch, i applied rash cream but had no idea the 2 could be related, she barely ever gets genital rashes, so i figured it would go away with teh rash cream, the doc say that teh heat form teh diarhhea and urine causes the rashes, he didnt even give her any meds just 2 iv's, he says that the virus cannot be cured with antibiotics? i find it so weird that he didnt give her meds I am thinking it can also be a urine infection. any advice, I am taking her to another doc in teh morning because now she is crying because she has pooped so much that her backside hurtss.

Try a good zinc oxide cream and apply it every time she goes to the bathroom. Also, sometimes a child who has had a fever with a virus will break out in a rash, but that's usually more all over. If your daughter has a virus, they won't give her an antibiotic--an antibiotic will only work on a bacterial infection. But if you're worried about a UTI, ask them to check her urine. If it's positive, they'll probably give her the appropriate antibiotic. Hope she feels better real soon!

Hi thanks so much for you response,I willl buy the zinc ointment, anyway my 3yr old started vomiting about an hour ago so I guess she has the virus too, I think they catched this virus in the mcdonalds playground, anyway the rash on the genital are got better after the IV. but she says it hurts her alot, by the way tehy trie to check her urine, but she would not pee, she refuses to pee outside her home, it is kind of crazy but I carry a portable toilet in my van because of this, she is very shy, anyway they tried putting a catheder in to get urine but no chance for some reason they could not get it in, so they gave up, anyway I will try to take herto a doc in a few hours, I am so tired been up all night and its 6.30am, anyway thanks

DS had horrible liquid poo last week from an antibiotic and came home from school crying and tugging at his diaper (he's only 2). Turns out he had gone in his diaper while I was driving home and it really irriated his his scrotum -- I felt so bad cleaning him up with wipes it hurt so bad. I use this stuff called critic-aid made by sween -- we call it butt paste and I spread a thin layer all over the irritated areas. Then later I had him play in the tub. Next morning he was almost back to normal. I just using the butt paste until he got over his stomach upset.

My daughter had a bad smell coming from her diaper area (she's 2) and the dr. said to give her baths in baking soda it. It said it on the box of baking soda I tried it and it works very nicely. Whenever one of my children start getting a rash in the diaper area I use plain old wet paper towels to clean them. When they start looking very red I will give them a bath and let them soak in the water for a while before I wash them and then use balmex or equivalent to protect area from further irritation. In some extreme cases of irritation the dr. can give a cream for the rash.
