View Full Version : Lower back pain

Hi,

I have had lower back pain, mostly centered, for about 4 mos. now. I had it for a few weeks (I don't recall having done anything physical that may have brought it on), then had to help a friend move, which I am sure made the prob. worse. Some days it's not bad at all, barely noticeable. Other days it gets to be pretty bad. It seems worse in the mornings (Not my mattress, that's fine), and gets a little better as the day progresses. It's also worse when sitting, almost feels like two bones grinding against each other. Doesn't bother me as much when walking. About a month ago, I had pain in my right butt cheek as well for a couple days, and then it spread down into my thigh, and actually caused me to limp slightly. This passed though, and now I am just back to the lower back pain. (Although, I had to lift my puppy into the bathtub the other day and made the prob. much worse for a couple days :nono: ) Anyone with ideas on what may be the problem?? It's gotten to the point where the annoyance and irritation of the pain (wondering "when the heck am I going to feel 'normal' again?!?) is almost worse than the pain itself (if that makes any sense).

Thanks!

Welcome to the back board

Sounds like (if you haven't already) you NEED to see a Dr.

Back pain that last for 4mo is most likely more than muscle strain - please get this checked out.

Well, (in reply to seeing a Dr.), I was at my yearly check-up when I mentioned to my family Dr. that I was having lower back for several months, and can you believe that all he had to say was "Hmm.. that's a shame" (or that’s too bad, or some lame comment like that)! And, no, I didn't say anything after that. I was rather dumbstruck. I thought, well, maybe because he is a family physician, he doesn't know all that much about this type of thing, maybe this is something to discuss with a specialist or chiropractor. And, unfortunately, our insurance will only cover certain types of visits (like regular check-ups and so on). To go to another Dr. I would have the deductible (lets not get into that!). So, that's why I was sort of hoping I could get an idea from here first before I start shelling out tons of $$$.

Thanks,
MYST

If it's bothering you for this long which obviously it is....or I don't supposed you would have posted the msg you did...then there is always a way ~ especially if you have some type insurance.
Perhaps you could start by seeing your GP again and this time when you make the appt TELL THEM that it's for back pain, this will be documented and then tell the Dr of your concerns. Hopefully he will initially order some x-rays if he doesn't TELL HIM YOU WANT THEM and depending on how your ins policy reads I would hope any diagnostic tests (mri's) are covered especially if your primary Dr orders them.
1st things 1st ~ and right now it would seem you need a diagnosis and answers whether you have something to treat or not.

Good luck
and please keep us posted
