View Full Version : stubborn hypertrophic scar---advice needed!!

Hello, I'm looking for any insight or advice from anyone who's tried to improve the appearance of a burn scar. I developed a hypertrophic scar on my upper left arm, a little larger than a pencil eraser, from a cigarette burn in the Spring of 1998. It was excised several months later, but the result was a broader, flatter, dark red/purple scar. Over the last twelve months, I've had six pulse laser dye treatments and several eight-week stints of applying Tri-Luma to the area. The laser treatment has flattened the scar nicely---it's flush with the surrounding skin. But I cannot seem to get the redness to fade. The Tri-Luma lightens the area temporarily, but the redness always returns. I understand the scar will always be there, but my goal is to reduce the redness to the point that it blends with the surrounding skin. The specialist I'm working with told me initially that once we were finished with the treatment, "you won't be able to perceive the scar." But I'm losing confidence in what she's doing and am looking for other experienced opinions. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!
