mondago123 04-13-2005, 04:04 PM i have posted before on here and i cant figure out if i have hbp or just anxiety or both? i bought a lumiscope i am not sure what the model # is!!! i get readings in the 130 occasionally but most of the time 120s and normal 116 117 118 119 over 70s and 80s!! when i first bought it i got a couple 140 over80 readings but i must have got adjusted to it!!! cause when i wake up in the morning i take it before i get out of bed and it is like 117 or 119 /70s and sometimes 60s when i get out of bed in the mid day or night i get 120s/70s or 80s and sometimes the machine will read ee for error !! well i notice that when it inflates the numbers go up to like 150 or sometimes 160 but it never goes up to 200 or so!!! is it a bad monitor? or does it not need to inflate as high as 200? any replies would be great
thanks shane
mgraylorn 04-13-2005, 04:13 PM It has an auto-inflate. It inflates up until a it reaches a certain pressure and then starts measuring downward. If it detected your pressure at or near the start inflation, it would squeeze your arm more and inflate upward to over 200 to start counting down. Its working fine.
When you take your pressure readings, are you sitting upright with your feet on the floor, and arm at your side so the cuff is level with your heart? That is the correct position to take your readings.
If you are taking your pressure while correctly seated and getting the numbers you are posting, you are fine, you do not have high blood pressure, which is defined as consistent readings of 140/90 or greater.
mondago123 04-13-2005, 04:54 PM yes i do take it sitting up right with my arm rested on my leg and i do also let it rest on the table sometimes and it is 120s over 70s well i still dont know how to feel when checking it at the doc office and grocery stores!! i dont breathe like normal and i dont know if i should feel this way or if i have anxiety!! i also feel like i have to breathe from my stomach and i get that adrenalin feeling in my chest and tumy!! well thank you for the replies
shane
mrmojo 04-13-2005, 05:40 PM dont rest your arm on your leg you will get a high reading
sit in a chair & rest your arm on a table the table top should be about heart level
you can use the arm of an easy chair or couch if its the right level, i even use the window sill of my truck when im travelling
but if you dont rest your arm at the same level you will get different readings, resting it on your leg will give a inaccurate high reading
when you get the error messages its probably because you moved while taking the reading
mondago123 04-13-2005, 05:52 PM thanks mr mojo but can i ask u something? do u have any difficulty breathing or do u get any like feeling in your chest and stomach like of adrenilin while checking your blood pressure either at home or in a docs office or even at the grocery store? i seem to feel my heart not only in my arm but in my chest or stomach!! is this anxirty or is this how a person might feel checking their bp? thank you
shane
mrmojo 04-13-2005, 06:17 PM i get feeling nervous in the dr office, at home or my office im usually ok unless im really rushed or the damn phone is ringing off the hook when i try to check it then i get feeling like that too
seems like if im in the office as soon as i strap on the BP cuff the phone starts ringing, I get pissed, & my readings are high
mondago123 04-13-2005, 07:24 PM last year at the least i remember geeting normal readings at the grocery store no matter where it was how long i sat down or what!!! i dont remember feeling this way when i use to take it!! i remember the tightness on your arm and then that was it!!i dont remember the feeling of breathing different or the feeling of panic or anxiety
but it seems i do now and i wish when i got stressed last year that i would not have checked it cause when it was 135/80 i freaked and ever since then it has been over normal 130s 140s over 70s 80s once i think it was over 90s but usually 70s or 80s
well thanks
i guess i have to learn to relax during bp checks other wise i will never know if i have hbp or just anxiety setting it off!!!

zuzu8 04-14-2005, 12:36 AM Lolasmom,
Lifesource auto-inflate arm- cuff monitors are very good and rated highly (up there with OMRON, LUMISCOPE and RELiON) in Consumer Reports. Those were the top four brands rated for consistency and accuracy.

Paxilhead 04-15-2005, 12:31 PM I use this one:{REMOVED}
Omron HEM-637. Confimed to be accurate each time I visit the Doc. I'm currently taking 25 of Atenolol, I have a new Rx for 50 starting next week.

Lenin 04-16-2005, 12:50 PM shane,
I have and LOVE the Lumiscope 1085M.
Here's how mine works. There is a button called SELECT that allows you to choose the range: 160, 200, 240 or 280 (which HURTS!). Anyhoo, I select the 160 and it stays there automatically inflating to 160 and then starting to deflate.
I've judged that it will STAY there unless I go much over 150 when it will pause a moment and start to inflate some more...to 200. It will ALWAYS then go to 200 unless I SELECT it back to 160. Needless to say, on the rare occasion that I hear the second inflate I get slightly NAUSEOUS!:D
You don't want it to go too high if you don't need it because then it takes forever to work it's way down into a useful range, meanwhile all blood is cut off to your arm!
I hope this helps!
mondago123 04-17-2005, 02:20 AM thanx lenin i have a lumiscope but not that model and i get normal readings and alil above normal!! but i saw a new doc yesterday and it was 120/60 and thats was done by a nurse and when the doc discussed stress and anxiety with me he checked it and it was 123/75 i was disapointed that it was not normal, but glad he said i did not have hbp!!!! well thank you and should i be concerned about 123/75 as an active 23 year old ? my dad jus developed hbp but he does not exercise or eat right so i take it he got his from his own doings!!! i eat right and exercise everyday so i never worried about bp trouble and i checked it one day after some stressful situations and it was 135/78 and i freaked and since then it has been high everywhere i go!!well sory i type so much see ya later
zuzu8 04-17-2005, 05:29 AM Shane,
The nurse got a gorgeous 120/60 and even after the doc did a number on you about anxiety you still got a normal #.
123/75 is normal especially in a clinical setting.
And if you get 135/78 under stress you definitely don't have hypertension!!!!
zuzu xx
Uff-Da! 04-17-2005, 01:14 PM At your age, if you start getting occasional readings of 185/105 when you are stressed, you have reason to get a bit freaked out. If you get occasional readings of 165/95 when highly stressed, you have a reason to be a bit concerned. But an occasional 135/78, when your usual readings are far lower, is of no concern at all IMHO. Just relax and enjoy life.
pal7778 04-17-2005, 03:41 PM It's easy to see why you got freaked out, but relax and enjoy life. Bp ain't going to get you any time soon.
Cloverberry52 04-17-2005, 08:23 PM I had a Lumiscope and my doctor asked me to bring it in to make sure it was working right, it was. I got the same reading that he got in the office. Everyone on this board was recommending the Omron so I bought one of that brand. If you want to be sure it's taking it right just take it into the doctors office next time you go.
mondago123 04-17-2005, 11:02 PM thanks guys i appreciate it!!! i have had chest discomfort lately and i was playing basketball for a hour or 2 and was getting a lil dizzy at first then my chest was hurting a lil bit but i did burp a lil so maybe it was indigestion!! well my doc said it could be stress and anxiety or even indegeston!!!well thanks guys
hope u guys keep your bp under control
god bless
