I finally had by ENG and rotary chair test done this morning and turns out my balance system is fine. I think I already knew this because I never really feel dizzy or off balance-- just awful brain fog. Unfortunatley, an abnormality did show up. Instead of the left to right nystagamus that many people with dizziness and vertigo show, I had an upward pulse nystagamus which would suggest that my problem is central nervous system related. Maybe it is just a virus that has stripped my nerves, maybe it is MS. I am trying to get in to see my neurologist (who told me I was having anxiety issues) ASAP. Hopefully now that a diagonstic test shows something, he will take me a bit more seriously.
So I am sort of/really worried, but am hopeful. My fog is not getting worse, it is actually easing up a bit, which my ENT assures me is the best possible sign whenever dealing with disorders of the central nervous system. Even still, it is never fun to hear a doctor say you have something wrong with your brain.
Well, seeing as how I feel like I have pretty much ruled out any inner ear cause of my problem (although of course one can never be 100% sure) I think this will probably be one of my last threads on this board. I'll post once I have a difinitive diagonsis in case anyone is curious; a little more information for all those out there suffering with the fog.
I just wanted to thank everyone on this board (Scott, Wowwwweeee, hbep, dena and loralei especially) for the information and support they have given me. This board has been invaluable, for my sanity (so many times I felt like I was the only one who ever felt this way until I read ten posts describing the same sensations) and in helping me get doctors to understand my problem and do the tests I needed. I probably wouldn't have even gotten the ENG had I not found this site, indicated to my ENT that my fog was described by a lot of people suffering with inner ear problems and that I wanted the diagnostic tests. So thanks a million. Everyone out there dealing with dizziness, vertigo, brain fog, anxiety and all the other demons that come along with this beast.... you are truly some of the most couragous (and well informed:-)) people in cyberspace- or real space for that matter.
Best for a full recovery and a happy healthy life
