View Full Version : want to tone down highlights

I recently went to the salon & got blonde highlights. I have medium brown hair & the highlights were just too extreme, so i went back & the stylist put toner in my hair which did temporarily tone down the blonde, but only over the course of a few days-now they are really blonde again. First question..I've been tanning(in a bed), would this have lightened my hair again?? Second, I've read over & over again on this board that you shouldn't dye your own hair, but if one is insistent on doing this, any recommedations on what i should use? I just don't want the highlights to be sooooo blonde. Any help would be great.

Hi,
You could use a shampoo for brown hair...that will tone them down. You could try using tea to deposit some colour into the hair.

Or, if you have access to Shades EQ from Redken, it's a semi-permanent colour and will last a bit longer than what the hairstylist put in.

Hello again! I bought some semi-permanent hair color(light brown) & used it last night. It worked pretty well to cover up my bleach blonde highlights! I just hope it doesn't look like crap once the color starts to fade.
I also bought some of the Brilliant Brunette shampoo & conditioner, anyone ever try this?? any feedback would be great!!
