View Full Version : Pulmicort and sick child

Hello! Well, we started the pulmicort yesterday (she had two doses yesterday and one today) and last night around midnight she started coughing and throwing up (threw up twice and had dry heaves the rest of the night). This morning she feels warm and has diarrhea (hasn't thrown up since 8:30).

This sounds viral to me but these are also listed as side effects of the pulmicort. I also read that infections can be more severe in children taking pulmicort. I have already notified her doctor but am wondering if anyone here has experienced something similar. Do your children seem to get sicker since they started it? Has it caused any side effects? She's coughing quite a bit more than she ever has (dry cough).

Any help would be appreciated.

Love and Prayers, Kelly

Oh Kelly, I hope she's feeling better soon! I would have to say that it sounds viral to me. Especially with the fever. Bryson has been on Pulmicort for several years (he's 12 now), and we've never had any side effects, period. It's done wonders for him. As for getting sicker than normal, I couldn't say. In the winter he stays sick, but he has had a lot of operations (starting when he was 3 weeks old) and that has lowered his immunity from the get-go. He's always caught more bugs than the rest of the kids his age, even way before he started the Pulmicort. He doesn't use it every day, though, only as needed for those Cronic Croup attacks.

Give her hugs from me & tell her to get to feeling better soon! Hang in there, Mom!

Melissa
