Hi Joel
54 people have read your post & nobody has replied :( It's around 7 years since I had my surgery so difficult to remember how long it took but I can tell you it took a while. It was only days before I used my hands again but I had tingling for months afterwards. The surgeon explained that because the nerve had been interfered with, it sometimes took a very long time to settle after surgery - anything up to about a year. He was right too.

I think you just have to be careful. Try not to overuse it but at the same time don't keep it in a splint or immobilized 24/7 Have you tried just wearing a splint overnight to give it a rest? I do that because I still do all the things which gave me cts in the first place.

I hope your hand continues to improve & gets back to normal soon. Best wishes.
Lidia :)

HI JOEL,HOPE THAT YOU RECOVER QUICKLY,I HAD CT SURGERY IN 2001 AND NEVER RECOVERED FROM IT IN EITHER HAND.THAT WAS MY 6TH SURG.ON RT HAND AND 2ND ON LEFT,LEFT HAND STARTED OUT WELL THEN A MONTH LATER HAD RT HAND DONE SO I HAD TO OVER-COMPENSATE W/LEFT HAND SO THEY BOTH WENT TO CRAP.DR SAID THERE'S NOTHING MORE THEY CAN DO,JUST LIVE W/IT.
I'M IN CHRONIC SEVERE PAIN 24/7 IN BOTH WRISTS AND HANDS.HANG IN THERE AND DON'T PUSH YOUR LIMITS

Hi Joel
I'm glad I was able to help in some way. Good luck with the next surgery in August.

Hi Trishalynn
I can't believe you had 6 lots of surgery on one hand  The most I've ever heard of before is 3 times. I'm sorry to know how much pain you're in despite all that surgery too. How much recovery time did you have between operations? My surgeon said he would never operate again on a hand until 2 years had past. This was how I found out about the length of time it might take my hand to recover. He also said that multiple surgeries can lead to a huge amount of scar tissue which can put even more pressure on the nerve. This has put me off going the surgical route for a second time. What I need to do is just stop overworking my hands :(

It sounds like you've had a really rough time of it & I hope you find some other solution. Have you tried vitamin b6 & bromelain? Both good for cts. I've know of people who swear by paraffin wax baths for relief too.
Best wishes to you both.
Lidia :)

HI LIDIA,THANKS FOR THE INFO.IN '93 I HAD A SCAFOID FUSION WERE THEY FUSE YOUR WRIST BONES TOGETHER AND TENDONITIS SURG.I WAS OUT OF WORK FOR ABOUT 3YRS AND WENT TO WORK UNTIL 2000.I HAD 6 WEEKS RECOVERY TIME BETWEEN LEFT HAND CT SURG.AND THEN DR.DID RT.HAND AND THEN IT WENT DOWN HILL.IN MY SURGERYS I COUNTED THE PIN REMOVAL.I CAN'T HANDLE THE PARAFFIN WAX,TOO HOT AND TOO MUCH PRESSURE,MY RT.HAND CAN'T HANDLE ANY HEAT OR PRESSURE(SP).I WILL TRY b6 AND I HEARD b12 IS GOOD TOO.I PRAY THAT THINGS WILL GET BETTER FOR YOU AS WELL.

JOEL, HAVE YOU TRIED ICE ON YOUR HAND AND WRIST?I KNOW THAT IT REALLY HELPS ME,AND I UNDERSTAND ABOUT THE PAIN WHEN YOU SET YOUR WRIST DOWN.DO THE DR.S HAVE YOU WEARING ANY KIND OF BRACES OR SPLINTS?
IF YOU HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS LET ME KNOW PLEASE,THANK YOU BOTH.

Hey guys,
Ice is great for swelling, but be careful; if nerves are involved, icing it may aggrivate an already altered circulation to the hand. :(
ShelbyS

P.S. I'm still recovering from surgery on the 17th of June. I also hand Ulnar nerve involvement (affects the pinky and ring finger).
