Hi :)
I was just wondering if I'm the only teen who has been diagnosed with CTS? I was 16 when I was first seen by a doctor, and 17 when the EMG was done, and it was confirmed. I wore a store bought brace from when I was 16-17, but it didn't improve, so they made a cusom brace for me in the OT department in the hospital. It didn't help much, so my surgeon said that once it starts to interfere majorly in my life that I should have the release done. I'm 18 now.
So yeah... anyone else my age around here?

Hi Amigone
I'm not around your age but nobody has replied to your post so I thought I'd say hi & wish you well with your cts problems.
It used to be that cts was thought of as a problem suffered by women of around age 40 with hormonal changes but now it's becoming far more common in people of your age. Here in the UK I've read that young people are having big problems with their thumbs from texting too much. Hand problems are on the increase too because of computer games & too much keyboard use.
I hope your hands are helped by the splints & that your problems wont continue for too long.
Best wishes.
Lidia :)

I'm 16 and have it.
It interferes a lot in my life simply because almost all of my classes involve typing and two of my three jobs involve it as well... very painfull and I've tried to cut bak as much as I can on typing without losing my jobs... so it's hard.
I'm right here with you hun.

I'm a musician, and I play guitar, piano and trombone. Trombone doesn't affect me much with my CTS, but Guitar and Piano sure do, especially guitar. As well, I study online, and I work at a hot dog store where I squeeze condiment bottles all day...
It sucks to think that this is something I'll have to deal with for the rest of my life.

I am 19 years old and have carpal tunnel syndrome as well. I not only use the computer a lot, but I sleep funny. I sleep with my wrists bent which has put a lot of strain on my wrists. I have some splints but I don't always use them like I should.

I'm way, way, way past being a teenager, but did having typing-type jobs for many, many years, but never developed CTS. I also broke my right wrist almost 15 years ago & the orthopedist said I'd probably eventually develop arthiritis at that place from trauma. Hasn't happened.
What I did do for many years was to soak my hand/wrist/lower arm at least two or three times a day (I got a tall plastic pitcher) in as hot a water as I could stand for up to half an hour. I'd never heard the term "carpel tunnel syndrome" when I started doing this, but I guess somehow thought the soakings a good idea for joint flexibility.
At any rate,I'm one of the few people of my "era" that I know that isn't bothered by hand/finger problems so it might have been very helpful, & I'd certainly recommend it to others.

ditto... i'm 17- it started acting up when i was 16- they've prett ymuch determined the reason i have it now is because of my job [i do drive-thru in fast food--- everything is gripping and twisting... esp the left hand]- i too am a musician- mainly violin, viola, upright and electric bass, as well as piano and french horn- all involve the left hand- of which is effected by cts- the cortizone shot helped a bit- the wrist is sore still, but i won't have to have surgery until sometime after i finish musical season ...so there are things out there- [the splint for example helps a bit- and anti-inflamatories sometimes] all in all though- it sucks, yes--- but there are ways to deal with it... and teenagers are starting to get cts more often then before- so you're not the only one
good luck none the less and i hope you get it taken care of- [this to everyone...]
