my mom got approved for SSI a month ago, my mom had previously gone to court with this case 7 years ago but got denied, after that hearing she appealed and basically got denied by mail many times so she kept re applying and then got this hearing where she finally got approved, is the backpay going to go back that far?

I believe I recall my attorney saying there may be a limit, but I do also recall him saying a limit on how much he could take which was $5400, so I am pretty sure that she will get all that back pay based on how much she was originally told her monthly bennefit would be plus approx. $20 per year inlation pay per month...ie. if she was told $350 7 years ago in Nov. then in Dec of 99 she would get $370 per mo. and so on thru the years.
Hope that helps!

SSI or Title XVI benefits are normally limited going back to the last application filed. It cannot go back further than the last decision by an ALJ in any case (unless of course the decision was overturned by higher authority).

so maybe the backpay might come back from the last court hearing? She hasn't heard anything in about a month, how long does it usually take and in what way will she hear from them..a call, letter or with the backpay check?
